Enthusiastic teacher of piano and music theory, with experience of teaching all ages and abilities. Alex is renowned for a naturally caring and patient nature and an ability to inspire confidence and motivation. Alex’s pupils have a 100% success rate in ABRSM exams, and he will teach in a student’s own home.

Alex is also a freelance pianist, accompanist and chamber musician. A graduate of the Royal College of Music, London, Alex has performed around the country, including at the Wigmore Hall, BBC Proms and on Radio 3. Alex is a Park Lane Group Young Artist 2012, regular performer with the London Sinfonietta and a founder member of the acclaimed chamber ensemble the ‘Dr K. Sextet’. Alex also curates the Cheltenham Music Festival Composer Academy and has accompanied for musicians across Britain and Europe.

Holland, Chris

Chris is a didgeridoo player, teacher, performer and storyteller. He offers lessons and group workshops in didgeridoo playing, bushcraft, environmental art, nature awareness and outdoor play for individuals, schools, festivals, parties, team-building, youth groups, community groups and occupational therapy. Story-telling workshops based on creation myths and fables from around the world are enhanced by an intriguing collection of musical instruments. Stories are chosen to encourage wonder and connection with the natural world as well as conversation and debate across a wide range of sustainability issues.

Chris has performed and played with many musicians, from Paul Robertson of the Medici String Quartet to Hawkwind, from an Aboriginal dance troop in Coffs Harbour to Baka Beyond in Cheltenham. He was a founding member of the festival band Jabberwocky and has made a solo album called Fundijeri.

Byrt, John

John Byrt, D.Phil, FRCO is a free-lance conductor, scholar, and composer. In his youth he directed the Schola Cantorum of Oxford and was conductor of Musica Reservata. He made the first recording of Taverner’s Missa Corona Spinea and over the years has broadcast Gesualdo madrigals, Byrd propers and West Gallery Carols for the BBC. He writes and lectures on baroque music. As a composer he is mainly known for his choral music, folk song arrangements, solo songs and duets. John is also a singing/voice tutor and piano/organ accompanist.

Down, Steve

Steve Down is a performer, session guitarist, composer, and teacher. He graduated from Southampton University in 2006 with a First Class Honors degree in Music. While he was there he was the guitarist for the Southampton University Jazz Orchestra and the University Gospel Choir. He performs original material with Nu-Jazz trio, The Swiss (a Southampton-based Jazz/Fusion band) and regularly takes composition commissions.

His session credits include: Joss Stone, Jonathan Joseph [Pat Metheny, Ricky Martin], Marco Migliari [Peter Gabriel/Stereophonics], Real World Studios, Matthew Scott, Channel 4, Guy Pratt [Pink Floyd], The National Theatre, Keith Emerson, KU records, Chiwawa Records and have performed in UK, France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy.

As a teacher he lectures composition at Taunton College of Arts and from music theory up to performance for ISCA Media College of Arts.

With Katarina Homberg, he co-runs Grand Avenue Music, a successful Brighton-based function band which performs across the UK.

Jazz saxophone player, saxophone tutor, workshop leader, composer, drummer.

I lead jazz bands from duo up to quintet suitable for all types of function. My jazz bands have appeared in major UK jazz festivals and I am well known on the UK jazz scene. I have released several albums. I compose and record original jazz music for small groups and was commissioned to write a jazz/classical suite for performance by a 10-piece band in the 2010 Exeter Vibraphonic Festival. I teach saxophone from beginners up to advanced specialising in jazz and also teach jazz improvisation and harmony to players of other frontline instruments who have good basic facility. I lead jazz workshops in schools and privately. I am also a jazz drummer available to play with local bands.
