Chris is a didgeridoo player, teacher, performer and storyteller. He offers lessons and group workshops in didgeridoo playing, bushcraft, environmental art, nature awareness and outdoor play for individuals, schools, festivals, parties, team-building, youth groups, community groups and occupational therapy. Story-telling workshops based on creation myths and fables from around the world are enhanced by an intriguing collection of musical instruments. Stories are chosen to encourage wonder and connection with the natural world as well as conversation and debate across a wide range of sustainability issues.

Chris has performed and played with many musicians, from Paul Robertson of the Medici String Quartet to Hawkwind, from an Aboriginal dance troop in Coffs Harbour to Baka Beyond in Cheltenham. He was a founding member of the festival band Jabberwocky and has made a solo album called Fundijeri.

I’m a musical director, composer, writer and lyricist, workshop leader and singing teacher living and working in Exeter. I do most of my work with young people (5-18+) in schools and theatres, and have had a fantastic time over the past 15 years doing all sorts of musical projects. Highlights include composing and writing 8 musicals for young people, work with the Northcott Young Company, commissions from Devon Music Service and involvement in a big environmental project called ‘Earth Heart’ for the Diocese of Exeter and Exeter Cathedral.

Devon Baroque

February 18, 2011 § Leave a comment

Devon Baroque has established a strong reputation as the principal orchestra in the South West specialising in baroque and early classical music, played on period instruments and in appropriate style. The orchestra’s repertoire ranges from Biber to Bach and Boyce with performances in cathedrals, churches, concert halls and small, private venues. It has worked with international soloists such as Emma Kirkby, Michael Chance and Sebastian Comberti and helps to promote young musicians at the start of their careers. In addition to performing from its large repertoire of instrumental music, Devon Baroque collaborates with vocal ensembles and choirs. The size and composition of the orchestra reflects the demands of the repertoire, from a small chamber ensemble to a larger orchestra with wind players.

Devon Baroque promotes understanding of and engagement and active involvement in the world of Baroque music through its education programme, including workshops on Baroque playing style and composer ‘Experience’ weekends at Dartington Hall.
